Introduction

Nursing provides a caring service, where the nurse aims to promote, maintain and restore the optimum state health for each individual. The role of the nurse in the health care team is to provide holistic health care in a variety of settings which include health education, prevention of illness, promotion of health, care of the acute and chronically ill, rehabilitation and even to a peaceful death.

The nurse has a professional obligation to provide the delivery of health care not only to the individual but also to the individual's family and community.

To ensure such service can be efficiently delivered, the basic nursing (Diploma) course provides comprehensive preparation and sound foundation in health science, behavioral science, and nursing science using the integrated approach.

Allowances for Student Nurses (During 3 years training)

  1. Students allowance : RM606.21 per month
  2. Other allowances :
    i) Ref. Book : RM250.00 per year
    ii) Project paper : RM 90.00 per year
    iii) Stationeries : RM 25.00 (once throughout 3 years training)
    iv) Tailoring Allowance :RM 90.00 (year 2 & 3)
Course Duration/Course Status
3(Three) years/Diploma
1. Entry qualification and Application:

I) Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM): Minimum grade 3, preferable Grade 1 or 2 with credit in:

  1. Bahasa Malaysia
  2. English
  3. Mathematics
  4. General Sciences eg. Biology
  5. Any other subject

II) Sijil Tinggi Pelajaran Malaysia (STPM) will also be considered

2.Other requirements:
  1. Must be interested in Nursing.
  2. Has been involved in voluntary activities like Red Crescant, St. John's Ambulance, girls guides etc. This can be an added advantage.
  3. Can speak several other languages besides mother tongue.
  4. Physically and mentally fit.
  5. Height 5 feet and above.
  6. Body build - not too thin/not obese/Normal BMI
  7. Single
  8. Those with followings deformities or conditions may not be considered:
    - HIV positive
    - Epilepsy
    - Without fingers
    - Severe cleft palate

5.Appointment and Agreement
Salary for Staff Nurse U29 (upon graduation)
  1. Basic salary : RM1194.75 per month
  2. Critical allowance : RM179.21 per month
  3. Housing allowance : RM 135.00 per month
  4. Regional allowance : RM 238.95 per month
  5. Civil Service allowance : RM 115.00 per month
    Total income per month: RM 1862.91 per month
Grade U 29
  1. Minimum basic pay - P1 T6 RM1194.75 per month
  2. Maximum basic pay - P3 T27 RM2781.06 per month
Agreement

Trainees sponsored by the Ministry of Health Malaysia will require to serve in the Government for a period of 5 years in which penalty will be imposed if otherwise.

    UM/UNIMAS/USM/IMU/UKM
  2. Master in Nursing (Twinning with Monash University and University of South Australia)
