PUBLIC HEALTH

FOOD SAFETY AND QUALITY

The general objective of the Food Quality Control Program is to ensure that food provided to the public meet required standards, and are safe for human consumption. Activities under this program include food sampling, inspection and evaluation of food premises, health education, training and enforcement of legislation pertaining to the manufacture, storage and distribution of food. A food laboratory has been established in Kuching to facilitate the testing of food samples to ensure that they comply with the microbiological and chemical specifications in the Food Regulations, 1985. The Sarawak Health Department collaborates with several agencies including local authorities, Chemistry Department, Agriculture Department and Education Department to strengthen its food quality control activities.
